Artflight Panel Feedback

ASSESSMENT REPORT

The Artflight panel meets in the first or second week of every calendar month to assess applications from Western Australian artists and arts workers to attend events of strategic significance to the development or promotion of their arts practice or profession.

GENERAL COMMENTS

The selection criteria and required support material for this category are outlined in the current Arts Grants Handbook.

The most common reasons applications will be rejected are:

1. The activity that does not fit the guidelines for this category
Successful applications will feature one of the following activities:

  • Attendance at the opening of the applicant’s exhibition or book launch;
  • Performance or exhibition at a festival;
  • Presentation of a paper at a conference; or
  • Attendance at a short course or workshop providing highly specialised professional development and where entry is competitive.

2. Failure to demonstrate why the activity is timely and relevant to the applicant
Please provide a strong argument for selection. The reasons should be specific to you and the particular activity and explain:

  • What the activity is and its significance nationally/internationally;
  • Why it is timely for your career;
  • Why it is relevant to your practice, eg how it will create new opportunities or develop new skills.

3. Inadequate or irrelevant support materials
Support material should include:

  • A letter of invitation from the event host;
  • Quotes for flight and freight;
  • Your CV;
  • Samples of your work relevant to this activity; AND
  • Reviews and/or support letters from key representatives or decision makers within your artform.

4. Insufficient track record
You should demonstrate through your support materials that you have the necessary skills and track record to represent Western Australia nationally or internationally.

5. An incomplete budget
Flight and freight are the only eligible expenditure in this category. However, your budget must show good planning and include all costs (not just flight and freight) as well as other sources of income to cover the shortfall. Funding through Artflight is a contribution towards costs only.
