GENERAL COMMENTS

The Panel recommended 14 applications for funding across the Development, Distribution and International Scholarship categories totalling $160,507.  In terms of the total number of applications, this is a 42% success rate compared against the total request of 33 applications.  In dollar terms, this is a 39% success rate compared to the $413,478 requested.

The Panel commended the high standard of applications.  Applications from the emerging theatre sector in this round were of a particularly high standard. The International Scholarship fund continues to be a popular category, with applications coming from some outstanding young artists, and with confirmed places at prestigious universities across America and Europe.

PANEL COMMENTS

1. SUPPORT MATERIAL

The Panel commented on some applicant’s tendency to include too much support material, such as individual CVs that were more than one page and a quantity of letters that exceeded the specified amount. See page 39 of the Arts Grants Handbook 2008, as well as the information in the selected category, as support material requirements have been revised.

2. APPLICATION FORMS

The 2008 application form is now downloadable off the website. This round the Panel noted some confusion over which application form to use.  Please download the 2008 Application Form off the DCA website, and do not work from old forms, or re-format the current one.

3. ELIGIBILITY

A number of applications had ineligible start dates, and ineligible budget items. Please read the handbook carefully on page 36 for guidance on which items are ineligible for DCA support.  Page 3 of the handbook has a Young People and the Arts table in blue that specifies when your activity can start for each round.
