We strongly encourage you to use the Online Grants system to apply however in some circumstances you can request a hardcopy application pack by contacting us.

We encourage feedback through the acquittal process and you are welcome to contact us at any time.

Six changes all applicants need to know in 2019

1 Programs and categories

Previously there were four programs: Aboriginal Arts, Commercial Development, Community Engagement and Creative Development, each offering grants in the categories of U-15k and 15k-plus.

In 2019 there are two programs:

The categories are:

  • Aboriginal Arts
  • Commercial Development
  • Creative Development
  • Sector Initiatives (Arts 15k-plus only)

2 Sector Initiatives

This is a new category offered in 2019 as part of the Arts 15k-plus program.  It is open to all eligible applicants including Culture and Arts funded organisations and the Major Performing Arts companies.

It will support activities such as:

  • collaborations between organisations in the art, cultural and creative sectors
  • international and national engagements, including scoping and development
  • sector-specific research projects
  • activities that benefit the broader sector
  • the development of new tourism and employment initiatives
The objectives are to:
  • build the capacity of the arts, cultural and creative sector;
  • support identified Government priorities* for the art, cultural and creative sector;
  • build the level of international engagements and touring of WA art, cultural and creative organisations;
  • support the development of new business models, particularly digital initiatives, for a WA art, cultural and creative organisations.

*For the purposes of the Sector Initiatives category these priorities are:

  • WA content – reflect the State’s diverse identity through telling Western Australian stories and developing creative content in Western Australia;
  • WA jobs – contribute to the State’s creative economy by employing and developing a diverse range of professional artists and arts, cultural and creative workers;
  • WA tourism - providing tourism opportunities.

3 Community Engagement

Applications for community engagement projects can be made to the Creative Development and Aboriginal Arts categories.

4 Contemporary Music Fund Grant Program 

A new program for 2019, the Contemporary Music Fund Grant Program, provides funding support to the WA contemporary music sector across a range of activities that align to the program’s objectives.

The program offers grants in two categories:

  • U-15k for applications up to $15,000
  • 15k-plus for applications between $15,000 and $60,000

5 Application Manual

The application manual contains additional information when setting out to make a competitive application. It should be read in addition to the relevant program guide.

6 Arts Organisations Investment Program

The Arts Organisation Investment Program process has been simplified for 2019. Applications will be accepted online through the Online Grants web portal.

The program consists of two categories:

  • Producing and Presenting
  • Service
