The Department of Culture and the Arts values the role of the media in informing the public on a range of issues including arts and culture in Western Australia. The Department recognises the need for openness and transparency in communication to ensure that the information is presented in a factual and timely manner.

Protocols

Operating under the Public Service Act, the Department follows Government protocols when communicating with the media. When approaching the Department of Culture and the Arts with your enquiry, please consider the following points. 

• Corporate Affairs coordinates all media enquiries for the Department of Culture and the Arts. This includes liaising with delegated media spokespeople that are authorised to respond to media enquiries. To contact the Director of Corporate Affairs call 9224 7390 or email.
• Media enquiries to the Department are best presented in a written format.  This ensures clarity of your query and it is recommended that you include your deadline. Corporate Affairs will collate the information required and provide a written response via email.
• Radio and television interviews will be considered on a case by case basis. Please contact Corporate Affairs to discuss.

Information provided to the media requires the Director General’s approval. While every effort is made to respond to your enquiry promptly, please consider this process and if it is possible, allow sufficient time for our response to your query.

The Department will respond to enquiries relating to its core business and where appropriate on matters related to the arts and culture sector. If you have a question for the Minister of Culture and the Arts please contact the Minister’s Office on 9213 6600.

Student enquiries

If you are from an educational institution and have a request for information that is not available on this website please email Corporate Affairs with your questions. The Department will attend to your enquiry as quickly as possible, however please allow for a five day turn around for information.
