David Malouf was awarded  the $110,000 Australia-Asia Literary Award for ‘The Complete Stories’ on November 21, 2008 .

Chair of the Australia-Asia Literary Award judging panel Nury Vittachi said: “The Complete Stories is a rich feast of subtle tales which sum up the intense joys and sadnesses that fill even the most ordinary lives - we were all moved by this fine collection."

This ground-breaking award is for a book-length work of literary fiction written by an author resident in Australia or Asia, or a work primarily set in Australia or an Asian country. Works must have been either written in, or translated into, English and published in the preceding year.

Recognising the increasing predominance of electronic media and to emphasise the Award’s focus on literary merit, no matter what the format; the Award was open to any book-length work of literary fiction published either electronically or in print.

Entries for the Award closed on May 31, 2008.
